Inked Bread
Inked Bread makes the best tasting bread you can buy. We know this is a bold statement, but we’re a bold group of people.
We’re focused on a singular mission – to make the best bread possible. We believe that bread was better when it was made the old-fashioned way. Starting with the highest quality ingredients, we keep the process simple by taking our time and baking in small batches.
About the Brand
Inked Bread is better, from seed to slice. Perfecting our bread is a team effort, and our makers team of farmers, millers and bakers each play an essential part in creating the high quality, better for you, oh-so-soft and delicious loaves you get at your local grocery store. Each step of the way, our bread making process is intentional. From the grains our farmers grow to the environment our millers employ, to the artisan, small batch techniques our bakers use, Inked Bread is not your average bread company.
Just like single origin coffee from your neighborhood roaster or a craft brew using locally grown hops, various regions and soils develop specific flavors in grain. Different varieties of grains have their own unique flavor nuances, too. We believe the best taste comes from these heirloom grains–making our wheat as good as it gets. We source only from people we know and who practice preserving the identity of these precious grains by farming in the traditions of agriculture past. We pride ourselves on knowing these people by name, knowing their families, and knowing the fields where they grow for us. We chose to work with them because they believe in what we do. No GMO’s, lab concocted chemical herbicides or synthetic fertilizers– just rich soil, sunlight on open fields, and rain from the sky.
The idea for Inked Bread was born when a few of us real people, who had all taken very different paths through life, got together and realized that we all were looking to make a difference. That meeting resulted in a promise to make the most healthy and awesome tasting bread people can buy.

FAQ
- Fun Fact: Our chief miller baker’s family helped to usher in the organic foods movement in the 40s and 50s in the San Francisco Bay Area. USDA Certified Organic products are regulated and certified by the United States Department of Agriculture. To achieve the USDA certification that you see on our label, our breads are made using ingredients that are free from pesticides or artificial fertilizers, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Additionally, the Organic certification ensures products are processed without using ionizing radiation and do not contain food additives.
- Yes! We are Non-GMO. We don’t use any GMOs in our products, and are committed to keeping GMO ingredients out of all future products. All of our breads are certified organic by the United States Department of Agriculture and part of being organic is not using any genetically modified organisms (GMOs). We always have been and always will be GMO free.
- All products, except our Honey Whole Wheat bread, are vegan friendly. Our Honey Whole Wheat bread contains organic honey.
- Our breads are very allergen friendly and do not contain peanuts or tree nuts. Additionally, our breads are baked in facilities that are free of peanuts and tree nuts.
- If you plan to eat our breads within 10 days, then the best way to store the bread is on your counter or in a bread box at room temperature. If you live somewhere with high humidity, we recommend putting the bread in the refrigerator to preserve the freshness. We also recommend keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat to prevent pre-mature molding. It is ok to freeze our bread if you need to store it for an extended amount of time (approx. 1-3 months). And thaw slices as needed.
- We source clean, chemical-free grains only from people we know and who practice farming in the traditions of agriculture past using rich, naturally fertilized soil, sunlight on open fields, and rain from the sky. Our millers mill our grains into flour slowly to prevent nutrient damaging heat, typically seen in large commercial operations, assuring the natural goodness in every grain makes its way into each Inked Organic loaf. We never use enriched or other flours stripped of valuable natural nutrients only to add stuff back just to meet a “legal definition”, or to create the facade of an attractive nutritional panel. Our whole grain flour actually is made from the whole grain. Nothing else has been added. Instead of stamping out tens of thousands of loaves each day on gigantic automated production lines, our breads are crafted by artisans across the country in smaller bakeries staffed by people who really love making great bread.
