Panorama Meats

Panorama Meats

Our USDA Certified Organic, 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef comes from cattle raised by U.S family ranchers on pastures and hillsides throughout the West and Midwest.

Above meeting the stringent standards of the USDA Organic Certification Program, our ranchers also have the very highest standards of sustainable ranching and humane animal handling practices.

Many of our ranchers also have a strong working relationship with Global Animal Partnership (GAP), a non-profit animal welfare program. All of our ranchers that participate in the GAP program are at least a Step 4 – Pasture Centered.

All Panorama cattle are raised in compliance with the Born and Raised in the USA® verification program, and must be born and raised in the United States and never implanted with hormones, fed animal by-products, or treated with antibiotics.  Panorama’s 100 percent grass-fed and grass-finished organic cattle graze on organic pastures and are processed in plants that are certified organic by the USDA-accredited certifying agency California Certified Organic Farmers.

Description

Fifteen years ago, grass fed beef was an unknown term in the grocery store, an inefficient word to most beef producers, and a tradition on the Wood Ranch in Susanville, California.

Panorama Meats got its start in 2002 when the company’s founder, Darrell Wood, saw a trend emerging. People began wondering where their food came from and caring how the animals were raised. Darrell and his family had been raising cattle without added hormones or antibiotics, entirely on grass, for years simply because they believed it was the right way to raise animals. Their cattle spent their summers in Susanville grazing amongst sagebrush and natural meadow grasses and followed the green grass to Chico, California for the winter months. At that time, there was no way for consumers to know the difference between cattle raised this way and cattle raised the conventional way – spending their last 3 to 6 months in a feedlot receiving a grain-based diet and antibiotics. To provide consumers with a choice between conventional beef and beef from healthier cattle, that is healthier to eat, and healthier for the environment, Darrell and a few other family ranchers joined forces to start Panorama Meats.

As the demand for grass fed beef grew, Panorama Meats’ ranchers decided to take it one step further and add USDA Certified Organic to their resume. The process to become certified organic is no small feat. However, because Panorama Meats’ cattle were already raised without added hormones, antibiotics, and GMOs, certified organic was a relatively easy feather to add to the cap! Today Panorama Organic Grass-Fed Meats can be found at Whole Foods Markets in California, the Pacific Northwest, Florida and the Southwest.

Panorama Meats’ never-ever brand still exists under the Western Grassfed Beef label allowing customers to buy humanely raised, 100% grass fed and grass finished beef with no antibiotics or added hormones, ever, online and have it shipped directly to their door. Western Grassfed Beef can also be found at select retailers in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest.

To achieve organic certification, Panorama Meats’ partnering ranchers must also get their land certified by verifying that their land has not been treated with synthetic pesticides and herbicides or other chemicals for at least three years. It is an extensive process but luckily, most of the rangelands the cattle call home are owned or leased by multi-generation ranching families that have been stewards of the same land for generations. These ranchers rely on their land to feed and nourish their cattle, so all Panorama Meats’ ranchers employ pasture rotation and land-management practices that promote animal health and protect the delicate rangeland ecosystems. Through these land-management practices Panorama Meats’ partnering ranchers can care for their land and leave it better than they found it – organically.

Today, Panorama Meats’ participating family ranchers span over one million acres of USDA Certified Organic grasslands throughout the U.S. The forty-nine small family ranchers that make up Panorama Meats’ partnering rancher network have made the commitment to raise organic, 100% grass-fed and grass finished cattle for the long term. With these ranchers, Panorama Meats can provide consumers with high quality, USDA Certified Organic, 100% grass fed beef, year-round.
